Online Training Courses

Online certification preparation courses are available to purchasers of Virginia Pesticide Applicator Training Manuals (see below for available courses). Online preparation courses are not an acceptable substitute for having access to a physical copy of the manual; they only serve as supplementary study aids and may not encompass all tested content.

These courses are designed to help you study for Virginia state pesticide applicator certification exams (Private Applicator, Commercial Applicator, Registered Technician, and Pesticide Business License).

Online Fertilizer Applicator Certification Training – Fertilizer Applicator Certification Training consists of 10 online, self-paced modules which cover the knowledge areas you must be proficient in to become a Certified Fertilizer Applicator (CFA) in Virginia. This course is offered separately from pesticide applicator certification training.

NOTICE:

Starting June 30, 2026, Virginia Tech will discontinue the free commercial courses currently offered through Canvas.

Beginning July 1, 2026, new expanded exam prep courses for Ornamental Pest Control (Category 3A), Turf Pest Control (Category 3B) and Right of Way (Category 6) will be available through Canvas. These expanded courses will include:
